Gameplay

A minimum of 3 players (including bots) are needed. With “Fill with Bots” enabled, you can start a game solo since bots fill the remaining spots.
Yes. Offline Mode lets you play against local AI bots with no internet connection. However, offline games don’t count toward your leaderboard score or stats.
If you lose connection mid-round, you’ll get 0 points for that round. You can reconnect and rejoin the game in progress — your scores from completed rounds are preserved. If the host disconnects for more than 15 seconds, the host role transfers to another player automatically.
Letters are generated server-side using weighted frequency tiers (common, uncommon, rare). Rare letters like Q, X, and Z appear at most once per acronym, and letters are never duplicated.
Yes, if the host has Allow Mid-Game Join enabled. You’ll watch the current round as a spectator and start playing from the next round.
When the top answers in a round tie for votes, a tiebreaker vote happens between just those tied answers. Everyone votes again to pick a winner.
In Classic mode (the default), everyone submits a phrase and everyone votes. Points are awarded per vote received. In Rotating Judge mode, one player is the Judge each round — they don’t submit, they just pick the winning phrase. The Judge rotates each round, and the first player to hit the Score to Win target wins the game. See Rotating Judge for the full rules.
A single acronym drops every 24 hours, and you have all day to submit one polished phrase. The whole community then votes on every entry. Winners are featured in the app and on the Daily Nym archive. See Daily Nym.
At the end of every game, the round-winning answer with the most total votes earns the Funniest Nym Award on the Game Over screen. It doesn’t change scoring — it’s a celebratory shoutout — and comes with a one-tap Share to Community button that posts it directly to Community Nyms.

Technical Issues

Try these steps:
  1. Make sure the app is updated to the latest version
  2. Restart the app
  3. Restart your device
  4. Uninstall and reinstall (make sure your account is linked first)
Check your internet connection. Acrophobia requires an active connection for online play. If your connection is fine, the game server may be temporarily down — try again in a few minutes.
Make sure each word in your phrase starts with the correct letter. The game validates that your submission matches the acronym pattern. Also check that you’re submitting before the timer runs out.
